Democracy in Cameroun: The results of the national contest presented during a conference

On Thursday, September 24, 2015, World Dynamics of Young People (WDYP) organized the public conference for the official presentation of the results from their national essay competition among young people on democracy in Cameroon. The conference was hosted by the Protestant University of Central Africa (UPAC). Attended by over 150 people, the public conference hosted government officials, students, members of the public, and participants from the many organizations comprising the Faith and Liberation Network, of which DMJ is a part.

After a welcome by the President of WDYP, Madame Caroline Claire Yankep, and an introduction of the audience to the Faith and Liberation Network, panel members presented the terms of reference for the national contest and discussed the challenges and opportunities of conducting the competition. Afterward, the audience was privileged to hear from six of the candidates (some laureates), who spoke of their perspectives on democracy in Cameroon. The young candidates came from around the country and spoke with humor, passion, and insight. The competition is a great example of programming aimed at engaging youth in the electoral process and empowering them to prevent violence in their communities and instead engage in building peace.
